helpamazon has made it easy to donate towards the relief effort underway in east africa and south asia following the horrible tsunamis on december 26th. an absolutely staggering 116,000 people are estimated to have lost their lives, and that’s just as of this posting… please take a moment, find something you can do without buying in upcoming weeks (a fancy dinner, a round of drinks, a video game, your morning latte) and make your way over there to contribute. feel free to use these badges to help spread awareness, which is oh so difficult during the holidays. thanks for your time.

jerry orbach died today of prostate cancer, which he’d been battling since earlier this year. orbach, as lennie briscoe, was an amazing fixture (so much more than an actor) on law & order, one of my favorite shows (as many of you know). gothamist has an excellent post, so i’ll just send you over there instead of copying the links… and if you haven’t had a chance to watch him in action, flip on TNT for syndicated episodes – they’re on every night.

on SNL tonight the tv funhouse was a spoof on rudolph, and i’m honestly still laughing… rudolph was doing his thing, yelling “merry christmas delaware! next stop virginia and north carolina!” but santa said “no rudolph, we’re skipping them this year! screw the red states, voting for that dumbass president just because of that moral values crap. i don’t want any part of them!” then he wipped out a map of the us, which had the blue states labled “america” and the big red blob of bullshit labled “dumbf***istan.” they even changed rudolph’s nose to blue, and santa met up with natalie merchant, moby, al franken, and margaret cho. all i can say is i’m glad santa is stopping up here at least! :)

update 12/20/2004: the skit was done by bent image lab – thanks to melissa for posting that before i could get home! as for the episode name, i couldn’t find one…

update 12/22/2004: bent image lab has posted the skit on their site, just look for SNL. thanks to everyone that has stopped by, and enjoy!

who would've thought a trip to europe in november would be so fantastic?!?! despite some crappy weather, though, it was just that. and of course, leave it to me to put off blogging about my trip until 2 weeks later, but let's just say work has been keeping me plenty busy.

i primarily went over for an ARINC security working group meeting in toulouse, france, but then decided to stay a few extra days and travel to amsterdam. we (tim and steve from united also went on the trip) flew to frankfurt (FRA) and then hopped a lufthansa flight to toulouse (TLS) for the meeting. then it was back to frankfurt to meet up with elena and take the ICE train to amsterdam (AMS). all in all, we were gone for 9 days and visited 3 countries -- not too damn shabby. so here's the lowdown:

    the flight over
on our flight to FRA, tim, steve, and i all got upgraded to 1st class, which on a united 777 is quite a kickass experience. needless to say, i took all possible advantage of the comfort and got my sleep on. mucho thanks to laura for having her birthday party @ sugar the night before, made the morning fantastic. :) of course, i still made time to watch anchor man and snack on "crab- and nut-crusted mahi mahi," but can you blame me? i honestly was a bit sad to land in frankfurt, but it was time to get down to business. unfortunately for tim and me, we wound up getting stuck at the frankfurt airport all day, since the flights to TLS were overbooked, and even w/ our business passes there wasn't room... and just to add to the fun, when we tried to get our bags (we'd checked the rollies so we didn't have to deal with them all day) we were told they had been set aside for the first flight in the morning. great. at least we had toiletries w/ us, and were ok for the night.
